After dead heating at Beverley the week before, Charli and Star Start won out right under a different tactics to the the first race at Pontefract on ladies Day!

STAR START, who dead-heated at Beverley last time, was ridden more patiently from a wide draw but followed up under a 5lb penalty (3lb badly in). Her peak efforts last year were better still and a hat-trick wouldn’t be out of the question.

I’m really glad we got there, it would have been annoying after bumping off the rail. STAR START has got a tendency to go off quick and, being drawn wide, had I tried to make the running, I’d have done too much too soon. I had to sit and suffer, and it’s paid off lovely.
