WINNER! Fort Bastion wins at Thirsk – 3rd May 2014
The Thirsk Hunt Cup is a race Ruth has always wanted to win and Fort Bastion did the business under James Sullivan.
“A useful and competitive handicap. The leaders went off hard and three of the first four home came from off the pace. FORT BASTION had shaped quite well in a couple of starts over 7f in April and returned to winning ways back up in trip, running on well after being switched into the clear over 1f out. His in-form new yard has quickly found the key to him and it’s not out of the question he could have more to offer, given he was placed in Listed company earlier in his career. QUOTES: Ruth Carr, trainer of Fort Bastion: He’s a horse who’s had a few problems. We bought him in October and roughed him off. He’d had two runs over 7f and I thought the step up to a mile would suit him. He’s in the Victoria Cup next weekend but we’ll have to see how he comes out of this.”
